About Station N°5
A stationery company built for lovers of well-crafted, well-curated and highly tailored writing tools, gifts and accessories.
The Company
Based in North Carolina, Station N°5 is a Black Woman-Owned stationery company that honors the art and craft of handwriting. The Station N°5 name is inspired by African American writing stations of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Writing stations were used to teach and practice the art and craft of handwriting and penmanship. After being legally denied the right to literacy, many African Americans considered good handwriting a marker of intellect and a path to freedom.
Our Mission
Here at Station N°5, we aim to spread the love and benefits of good handwriting and penmanship through thoughtfully crafted and carefully curated writing tools, gifts and accessories. We think beyond stationery as fancy desk adornments to stationery as a pathway to self-expression and strong connection.
Our Philosophy
In an increasingly digital world, the art and craft of handwriting is golden. As much as we believe in embracing modern technological innovation, we also believe in sitting down at a desk to write a letter to a friend… in jotting down notes in a business meeting… in scribbling fresh ideas on a sticky note pad. We call it balance. For the less digital side of your world, Station N°5 equips you with affordable and quality stationery tools, gifts and accessories for self-expression and strong connection.
The Founder
I’m ariana, a graphic designer, storyteller and lifelong lover of all things pen and paper. (In fact, you may have seen my alter ego pairing pens and papers at the former @penandpaperpairings on Instagram).
Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, I’ve been well-acquainted with writing and penmanship throughout my life. My father, aunts and uncles showed great pride and care in penmanship through letters, greeting cards and scribbled notes. As an ex-banker, I saw my mother scribbling notes and balancing checkbooks to keep the household finances in order. Over the years, I refined (and continue to refine) my own penmanship and sharpen my note-taking skills. Eventually, my friends, family and colleagues noticed my obsession with quality pens and journals, as well as my super fine print. I got asked more and more for writing pen recommendations.
Shortly before graduating from my master’s degree program in media arts, design and technology, I felt a strong urge to officially launch my own stationery company. Station N°5 gives me a welcomed break from the digital demands of my professional work. It allows me to merge my interests in history, handwriting and storytelling with my personal taste in stationery.
I’m really excited to share and grow the vision of Station N°5 with fellow stationery lovers.

“I tend toward precision pens, list pads, sticky notes, undated calendars, narrow- and college-ruled layouts, and a mix of masculine and feminine designs and materials. Think: leathers and suedes mixed with graphic floral prints.”
